Maheshwar: Maheshwar, located on the banks of the sacred Narmada River, is mentioned in the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Known as Mahishmati in ancient times, it was the capital of King Kartivarjun. Revived by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century, Maheshwar became the capital of her empire. After Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's death in 1707, Malhar Rao Holkar, a key Maratha leader, acquired Indore, Maheshwar, and Omkareshwar. He was succeeded by his daughter-in-law, Rajmata Ahilyabai Holkar, known for her charitable works. Maheshwar is famed for its historic fortress, rich traditions, and beautiful temples, offering tranquillity and cultural splendour. It is also the reputed site where Adi Shankaracharya defeated Mandan Mishra in a philosophical debate in the 8th century AD. Mishra, a devoted ritualist, debated Shankaracharya under the adjudication of his wife, Ubhaya Bharati, who stated that to truly defeat Mishra, Shankaracharya must also defeat her. About Ahilya Fort Hotel: Ahilya Fort, in the central Indian town of Maheshwar, sits high above the sacred river Narmada. Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar ruled here from 1765 to 1796 and built Ahilya Wada, her personal residences, offices, and darbaar audience hall, within the fort. In the year 2000, Prince Richard Holkar, her descendant and son of the last Maharaja of Indore, converted his home in Ahilya Wada into a guest residence, today known around the world as the Ahilya Fort Hotel. Mandu: Mandu is a celebration in stone, of life and joy. A tribute to the love shared between the poet-prince Baz Bahadur and his beautiful consort, Rani Roopmati. The balladeers of Malwa still sing of their euphoric romance. This city is full of heritage sites like Rani Roopmati Pavilion, Hoshang Shah's tomb, Baz Bahadur Palace that makes it one of the popular tourist attractions in Madhya Pradesh. Floating over its own reflection, the Jahaz Mahal in Mandu looks like a ship that's about to sail. However, for centuries this ship made of stone and mortar never did. Instead, it stood floating over the twin lakes, bearing a silent witness to Mandu's long, rich and varied history. Day 3: 4th September
