Under the aegis of our sister concern Assam Bengal Navigation, an Indo-British joint venture company, we pioneered long distance luxury river cruises on the Brahmaputra River in 2003 and followed it up with cruises on the Ganges River between Kolkata and the Farakka barrage in 2007 and up to Patna on the Ganges proper since 2010.   We are proud to announce that work has started on the construction in Kolkata of our latest luxury ship, yet to be christened , to join our existing fleet of ABN Charaidew and ABN Sukapha. The 50m vessel has been designed specifically for conditions on the Ganges with extra-shallow draught and reduced air draught providing a unique advantage over more conventional designs in these waters.

We have also expanded our portfolio with two jungle lodges. The Diphlu River Lodge has already positioned itself as the best accommodation at Kaziranga National Park. At Manas National Park on the Bhutan border our Bansbari Lodge offers a simpler but comfortable stay.

Specialization Detail:

ASSAM CRUISES. Wildlife and wilderness are the main features of a cruise in Assam on the vast Brahmaputra river – the river bed is often 20 or 30 km across, an empty world of sand spits and water with marvellous bird life and the occasional Gangetic Dolphin. The cruises here also give access to a number of India's National Parks, including Kaziranga, perhaps the finest of all, and Manas, a Project Tiger reserve on the Bhutan border

BENGAL CRUISES. The waterways of the old Bengal Presidency now lie in the Indian states of Bihar and West Bengal, and in independent Bangladesh. Here in the north of the region the rivers Ganges and Brahmaputra meet head to head and then flow out to the sea through the world’s largest delta. Inland, however, on the rich agricultural land lie prosperous towns and villages, rich in history and culture. This is village India at its best, completely unknown to tourists. Cruises go north from Calcutta on the intimate River Hugli, and can be linked with our cruises on the Ganges proper from the Bangladesh border up to the historic city of Patna.
ASSAM JUNGLE LODGES.

At Manas National Park ABN now has its own jungle accommodation,The Bansbari Lodge, situated right at the entrance to the Park. The 16 large twin-bedded rooms all have attached bathrooms and the lodge is simply but comfortably furnished.

At Kaziranga National Park, the Diphlu River Lodge opened in January 2008 and is run by ABN. In prime position, its cottages provide premier quality accommodation for a total of 24 guests. The airconditioned cottages are built on stilts with generous thatched verandahs and en-suite bathrooms, and have fantastic views directly overlooking the river and the National Park.

Brief details about the services offered:

River Cruises :
Brahmaputra cruises feature visits and attractions such as wildlife viewing (both by jeep and on elephant back), village walks, visits to tea gardens, exploring country towns in cycle rickshaws, barbecues on deserted river islands, dance performances, and visits to craft workshops.Between October and April we offer a combination of 7-night, 10-night and 4-night cruises, named for the Assam Despatch service, the daily mail-cum-passenger service that once plied from Calcutta up the Brahmaputra to Dibrugarh. Cruises can be combined to give durations up to 14 nights.

Ganges and Hugli cruises can be taken separately or together to offer a choice of durations from 4 to 15 nights. Ganges and Hugli cruises upstream from Kolkata are all about visits to villages, towns, temples and monuments in a little-known but fascinating and culturally rich part of India, on foot, by cycle rickshaw or minibus. The Sonepur Cattle Fair, on the banks of the Ganges in rural Bihar, is one of India’s great undiscovered spectacles, and we are able to anchor offshore to visit it in comfort.Cruises on the Hugli operate all year round, while the Ganges cruises operate in the winter months only, and the Sonepur Cattle Fair occurs around the Full Moon in autumn.
