To All Members

Dear Colleagues

Subject: Forwarding us the names of the hotels who have refused to give revised reduced room rates after reduction in GST Rates -  for meeting with Niti Aayog on 21st October 2019.

As you know, Government of India has announced number of incentives for holistic development of the tourism sector in the country like reduction in GST rates on hotel accommodation, reduction in e-Visa Fee etc. All this could happen with the tireless efforts made by IATO and also the other associations with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, FAITH, Chambers of Commerce, WTTCII etc.

ln this regard, a meeting has been called by the CEO, NITI Aayog with the representatives of Tourism Industry and other concerned stakeholders on 21st October 2019 at Niti Bhawan, where Presidents of all the Associations of Travel Trade, Hospitality and Chambers of Commerce have been invited to discuss the measures private sector need to undertake to drive tourism growth and jobs.

We are getting lot of telephone calls and emails from the members that some of the hotels who have given rates to the tour operators inclusive of GST before the announcement of reduction in GST, have refused to give revised reduced rates and passing on the benefits to the end consumers.

We have vide our circular dated 1st October 2019 advised all our members to report this matter to the Concerned Regional Director, India Tourism Office and to the Secretary Tourism of the concerned state with a copy to IATO. Some of the hotels have given the revised rates in accordance with the government desire to pass on the benefits to the end user. However, we understand from our members that some hotels have not agreed to pass on the benefits to the end users and have refused to adhere to the government directives.

In view of the above, IATO shall be taking up this matter during the meeting called by Niti Aagyog on 21st October 2019 and would like to present a consolidated list of the hotels who have refused to give the revised reduced hotel rates based on the reduced GST Rates.

Members are requested to send us the names of such hotels with the following information to IATO office latest by Thursday, the 17 October 2019:-

  • Name of the Hotel __________________________________
  • Location (City) _____________________________________
  • Name of the GM of the Hotel  _________________________
  • Email id ___________________________________________
  • Contact no.  ______________________________________

If there are more hotels in your list, please send us a consolidated list with the above information.

Kindly note above information should reach the IATO office positively by 17th October 2019 to enable us make a consolidated list and give to Niti Aayog/Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for further necessary action.

Please note this is most important and urgent.

With best regards,

Pronab Sarkar
