Subject: Increase in Elephant Ride Rates at Amer Fort, Jaipur from 1st October 2024.
As you are aware in October 2023 (last year), Archaeology Department, Government of Rajasthan exorbitantly increased the charges for elephant ride at Amer Fort without any notice. The increase was made from Rs. 1100 to Rs. 3500. IATO took up the matter strongly with Govt. of Rajasthan and also we took up the matter with the then Chief Secretary, Mrs. Usha Sharma and Mrs. Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary Tourism, Govt. of Rajasthan. In our letter to the Rajasthan Government, we mentioned that we are not against the increase, but it should be rational with sufficient advance notice to the industry so that accordingly our members can send their quotations to the foreign tour operators/clients.
With aggressive and personal follow up by our President Mr. Rajiv Mehra this increase was withdrawn one day before its implementation. Thanks to Mrs. Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary Tourism, Govt. of Rajasthan who supported us in this matter.
Now, we wish to inform you that the rates for elephant rides have been increased from Rs. 1100 to Rs 2500 with effect from 1st October 2024. This increase has been made after a gap of more than 10 years. IATO Rajasthan Chapter communicated to Archaeology Department, Jaipur that the increase seems substantial, but Archaeological Department insisted that due to the significant expenses involved in operating the rides this increase after 10 years is justified.
In this regard, minutes of the meeting held on 26th June 2024, are attached for your reference, which are self-explanatory.
As mentioned in the attached minutes, these rates will be reviewed after 5 years.
