To All Members,

Sub: Nipah Virus - Kerala update.

Dear Friends,

We know that you and your foreign counter-parts who are having groups in the coming days to Kerala must be having concern on the situation in Kerala due to news coming in on Nipah Virus.

Though we have written a letter to the Secretary (Tourism), Govt. of India and to the Kerala Government requesting them to issue an advisory to create confidence amongst the foreign tourists, we are sharing with you an Update on the situation in Kerala, which we have received from Regional Chapter Chairman who is based in Kerala.

Also, attached please find a press clipping of 15th September with the statement of Hon’ble Tourism Minister of Kerala, Mr. PA Mohammed Riyas who has mentioned that there is no restriction on travelling anywhere in Kerala. It is absolutely safe to travel to Kerala. There are large numbers of domestic and international tourists coming to India and no travel advisories have been issued.

You may advise your counter-parts accordingly.

Thanks and regards,

Dear Friends,

I am sending this message to keep you all updated about the situation in Kerala in connection with the Nipha Virus . The Nipha Virus was detected in Maruthonkara and Ayanchary panchayats , which is the outskirts of Kozhikode ( Calicut ) district . At present 5 people have been tested positive . However unlike in the past the Government  medical team has informed the the outbreak is under control . In the past one was not aware of how this virus was spreading . However now it has been proved that the virus is spread through internal liquid like saliva or vomit .

The Government of Kerala has taken all steps to ensure the spread does not happen.

•             The steps taken are the panchayats which was infected has been sealed so no one enters or goes out that Panchayat .

•             The second step is close down schools in Calicut district till Saturday (16th Sep).

•             The Third step taken is not allowing any large events where many people gather together in Calicut district. I also like to keep you informed that business is usual in both Calicut and neighbouring district such as Waynad .

In other words there no reason for any panic or cancellation of tours to Kerala. In case of any clarification please do feel free to call me at 984 703 3091

Thanks and regards

Sejoe Jose
