As you are aware that Ministry of Tourism organizes Dekho Apna Desh Webinar sessions under various schemes and topics every Saturday. On coming Saturday 11th June 2022 at 1100 hrs, we are going to present Episode No. 29 on topic, "  Taste of Kolkata  ", when talk about the taste of Kolkata, there are different segment - breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacking, evening tiffins, sweets, tea, Sattu sarbat, Chats, Juices etc. Most of the Bengali households, have handmade bread roti or Luchi (which is a kind of Puri made of refined flour). Street foods of Kolkata: Most of the places, one will have boiled egg, Bread toast/ Bread butter toast and Omelet, Jalebies, Samosa, Puri - Sabji and in some of the places, they make delicious Sattu-Kachori along-with either  Pickles or Chai or Masala-tea. Most of the shops in Calcutta serves the milk tea as well as the Lal-Cha or the Black tea or sometimes Lemon & Black Salt are added in the Black-Tea. Samosa and Jalebi can be taken both in the morning and evening as snacks. Some people take the sprouts along with the puffed rice too. There are many health-conscious people. They prefer to take different vegetable juices after morning walk. When it comes to morning, how anyone can miss Balwant Singh Dhaba – famous for its Spicy Ginger tea in the clay pot.

The working class people of Kolkata prefer to have in lunch either the handmade roti or bread or the nan or Dosa-Idli or Rice- Fish with lentils, vegetables or fruits or curd-pressed rice.

 

The speaker, Ms. Leena Sarkar,  from the City of joy Calcutta where past is fondly preserved by the present generation for the future.  She completed M. Phil from SOUTH AND SOUTH - EAST ASIAN STUDIES, UNIVERSITY OF CALCUTTA.

She is an Incredible India Tourist Guide (IITG), approved and certified by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. She is guiding since 1997 and loves to share all the information about this wonder which is called Kolkata where guests become extended family members of the city.

She completed her Post Diploma in Photography and helped many guests for various types of photography tours. She loves to do Colonial Heritage walk tour, Food Walk tours of Kolkata as well as ‘Tour In and Around Kolkata’, ‘Little Europe Tour’ which is the French-Dutch-Danish-Portuguese settlements around Kolkata. She also loves to talk about the terracotta work of Bengal and the open-air paradise called Shantiniketan. She also does ‘Port Heritage Cruise’.
