Dear Friends, 

As we all know, the COVID 19 outbreak has created a crisis brutally affecting almost every industry barring a few. The travel and tourism industry has been one of the worst-hit sectors due to the global pandemic with an estimated 70% job loss of the total workforce. With sealed international borders, suspended flights, compounded further by countrywide lockdown with intercity and interstate travel forbidden for months – travel and tourism had come to a complete standstill & we are staring at a loss of 150 lakh crores & about 5 crore job losses across the entire country.

Yet this sector has a tremendous potential to create employment opportunities in large numbers, given the higher forward and backward linkages of the sector. The sector acts as a multiplicator of jobs, as every direct job in this sector creates 6-8 times indirect jobs. It is indeed now become the responsibility of the thought leaders of this Industry to create relevant upskilling, reskilling & job opportunities for the generation of today to create a robust & resilient industry for the future.

ICC jointly with TAAI & THSC and In Association with Ministry of Tourism Govt. of India is organizing a Virtual programme- Skill Development in Tourism Sector: The Way Forward, 22nd September, 11 am onwards.
